BOY SCOUTS/CUB SCOUTS
The Boy Scouts/Cub Scouts is a nationally recognized group of boys who are in grades 1 through 5.The Pack consists of approximately 50 boys who meet once each month from September to May. The meetings take place on Friday evenings at the ICC gym. Dens, groups within the Pack, consist of approx. 5-10 boys according to grade level usually meet weekly according to member's schedules. We welcome young boys to join the Scouts as well as Men and Women to volunteer as Den Leaders. Formal religious instruction of children begins with our First Grade Program and progresses through receiving the Sacrament of Confirmation in Grade 10. Grades one through six meet on Sunday morning in two sessions: 9:00-10:00 A.M., and 11:00-12:00 A.M. Grades seven through ten meet on Sunday evening from 6:00 to 7:15 P.M. Teachers prepare each week's lesson using the teachers guide to the corresponding workbook the children receive. Volunteers are welcome to teach at all sessions and for all grade levels. You do not need to have a child in the program in order to teach. Volunteer positions are also available for those willing to substitute teach on an “on-call” basis to cover when someone is unable to teach their class. Traffic volunteers are needed for both morning sessions to help direct traffic during pick-up times to ensure safety for the children. We welcome volunteers for any aspect of the Religious Education Program. The Peer Ministry is a group of young adults who meet and discuss social, personal, political, and faith matters. Topics are discussed and related to a Christian world view while contrasting it to a secular or popular culture perspective. The hope is for young adults to feel comfortable asking the hard questions about their faith, secularism and the world so as to continue growing in Truth and the Christian message. There is also involvement with community activities at local shelters. The only requirement is that the individual has completed confirmation. Instances where older children are making faith decisions later in life and are receiving multiple sacraments at the same time are also welcome to the discussions. Meetings follow the regular CCD time, Sunday evenings from 6:00 to 7:15. |
